So There's This Blog...

This post will be very short because I can't go into the details.  Last night, I met up with a friend at a bar after my family dinner. While I was there, I met a very cute guy, gave him my number, then he casually mentioned my blog.  Yes, this blog!  He mentioned tumblr and brought up my blog, but he didn't know that I was the author.  Ahhhh!  I almost didn't know what to say.  Now I don't know if I should pursue being friends and possibly more.  It just shows how small the world (and especially Hawaii) is.  I guess I never really thought about how I'd react to meeting someone who actually read my blog.  I may have to think about that more for future encounters.

To my fellow anonymous bloggers, has this ever happened to you?  How did you handle it?  And for my readers, do you think I should confess to this guy?

  1. Yes. There are a couple women (one married) who follow my blog and Infinite Ache. They friended me on Facebook and would stalk the places I would check in at most. I'd get private messages that they saw me here, they saw me there. It got a bit more bizarre, but whatever. That's not the oddest thing, though. There's a VP at my office (a guy) who follows the Tumblr site (no clue how he found it) and gives me little nods throughout the day ("nice post last night"). Creepy shit.

  2. So, if he knows this blog and reads this blog, won't this little snippet be enough for him to put two and two together?

  3. Well, if he's a regular reader of your blog, then he might have already figured out that the cute chick he met last night who gave him her number is...you, right?

  4. Holy shit this terrifies me. It's never happened to me, but if/when it does, my plan is to never confess. Even if asked pointedly about my blog, I will deny it until confronted with overwhelming evidence. But that's me...

  5. Once.

It weirded me out. To the point I never wanted to be around him.

So I wish I had better advice, but I really don't.
But maybe just see where it goes with him, then slip it into some casual conversation :)
    Good Luck!

  6. Buddha - Oh wow, creepy. I don't add people I don't know to my personal facebook account, but I would be freaked out by the stalker-ish behavior!

David and Adam - I ended up telling him about the blog. He told me he really only read my tumblr, so I probably would have been safe lol

Maxwell - I thought about it and this guy is cool and I can see us being friends. Most of my friends know about my blog anyway, so I just confessed to him.

Jenn - I think if this guy was creepy or if I saw serious relationship potential, I might hold back. But I think I will end up being friends, possibly fwb, with him, so I just admitted I wrote the blog.

  7. We have made friends with a few of our blog followers, and therefore they know our "secret identities". But we've never had someone randomly call attention to our blog from the vanilla world. that would definitely freak us out here at UCTMW.

  8. I would feel very weird. Only two guys know about my blog. One doesn't care though I wouldn't tell him the url and one was totally weirded out by it and it ended our relationship.

If someone brought it up on casual conversation I'd think they were stalking me.

Random question - why don't you ever do HNT?

  9. Mick - I have shared my "secret identity" with a few blog followers as well. But this situation totally floored me. Luckily, this guy is cool and I can see us being good friends and hanging out.

Miranda - It was funny because this guy was talking about how he loved asian girls and he mentioned that he read a blog about an asian girl who liked white guys. I didn't think much of it until he said the name "Myli". Myli isn't my real first name. It's actually one of my two middle names, so even though I told him my name, he had no idea I wrote the blog because very few people in my real life call me Myli. It's mostly just my mom lol

And I don't do pics of myself. I suppose I could do HNT but I just stay away from pics and videos.

  11. Well if a guy told me he didn't want me to blog about him, I wouldn't. I also have a personal email and my blog email. I don't mix the two. Lesson learned, I suppose lol

  12. I keep a Facebook account just for followers of the sites. I would never friend anyone on the personal one. I don't even friend certainly family members. The last thing I want my friends to see is how my dad just had a bad bowel movement the other night. It's the kind of stuff his wife posts.

  13. Buddha - I've never given my personal Facebook page to any of my readers. I'm actually really anal about who I add to my page. I'm the same way as you. I haven't friended certain family members (or denied their friend requests). I also don't friend some of the people I work with nor do I friend my bosses. I do think it's funny that your dad's wife posts that stuff though!
